Key Points from the Regular Meeting
held on February 23, 2022
  • The Board approved an item proposed by Supervisor Cavanaugh to repeal Resolution No. 032020-LSE, the Resolution Declaring a Local State of Emergency issued March 20, 2020. This Resolution was issued as a result of the COVID -19 state of emergency declared by Governor Ducey on March 11, 2020. It authorized the Chairman to govern by proclamation and have the authority to impose all necessary regulations to preserve the peace and order of unincorporated areas of the County and preserve the public health and safety of the County.   • The Board approved a $25,000 contribution to the Pinal County Water Augmentation Authority (PCWAA). Terri Sue Rossi, co-vice chair of the Pinal AMA stakeholder group and water resources manager for Arizona Water Company, presented to the Board and explained that the funds will be used to, among other aspects, analyze, comment on and propose changes to the Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) assured water supply groundwater model for the Pinal Active Management Area (AMA). Supervisor Miller is currently Chairman of the Pinal AMA Stakeholder Group. (Item 16)

  • The Board passed a resolution proposed by Supervisor Goodman urging the U.S. Congress and Arizona congressmen to swiftly fund semiconductor manufacturing programs as authorized in the "Creating Helpful Incentives for the Production of Semiconductors for America Act," or CHIPS. The CHIPS Act will address shortages in the semiconductor supply chain and enhance development and growth in Pinal County and Arizona. (Item 17)

  • County Manager Leo Lew congratulated the Board of Supervisors and the City of Casa Grande on Kohler's recent investment into Casa Grande, which it is estimated will create 400 jobs for the area. He also thanked staff from the County's Public Works, Air Quality and Economic Development and Workforce Departments for their assistance in supporting the project needs. Kohler is a Wisconsin-based manufacturer of bath and shower fixtures. (Item 3)
  • The Board recognized seven staff members for length of service to the County. Celebrating 25 years are Steve Frazier, Chief Information Officer for IT, and Mary Dreyer, an Attorney for Public Defense Services. Meanwhile, five employees have reached the 20-year milestone: Carolina Estrada, Justice Court Clerk in the Copper Corridor Justice Court, as well as four members of the Sheriff's Office: Linda Martinez - Contracts Coordinator, David Haley III - Deputy Sheriff, Michael Hughey - Investigator, and Joseph Roethle, also an Investigator. Members of the public wishing to address the Pinal County Board of Supervisors may do so in-person at the Call to the Public section of Regular Board Meetings. Action taken as a result of public comment will be limited to directing staff to study the matter or rescheduling the matter for further
consideration and decision at a later date.
Eight Community Meetings have been held across Pinal County since the beginning of February to solicit public input. The meetings are now over, but you still have until Tuesday at 5 pm to have your say via the Redistricting website: www.pinalcountyaz.gov/Redistricting

The Board of Supervisors will meet for a Work Session on Tuesday, March 1st at 9 am to review potential Supervisor Districts and Justice Precincts. Then on Wednesday, March 2nd at 1 pm the Board will hold a Special Session to approve the Supervisor Districts and Justice Precincts.
